POS Terminal Requirements:
Point-of-Service (POS) Equipment Telephone and Power Requirements
Select a location that is in the general area where patients will be checking in for their appointments or paying for their visits. In general, avoid areas with excessive heat, oil or moisture, dust, excessive electrical noise from air conditioners, motors, fans, or power equipment.
Power requirements for a POS terminal:
You will need two 110 volt grounded outlets. The outlets must be within five feet of the POS location. You may need to provide a power strip, if so, choose a power strip equipped with a circuit breaker.
Ordering a new telephone line for a POS terminal:
Install the telephone jack within five feet of where the POS unit is to be installed. You need a standard dial-up telephone line, with a tone dial, and a standard RJ-11 jack. This is the same type of line required for fax machines and modems. The job order must specify that if the Standard Network Interface (SNI) is installed, the Mechanized Testing Unit (MTU) must be removed.
